in 1493, the papal bull inter caetera and the Treaty of Tordesillas had divided the New World between Spain and Portugal.

Early called Terra de Vera Cruz by the Portuguese, Brasil was an unexplored and mysterious land open to be explored by the boldest and some wishing to start a new life.
The Portuguese social model of conquest in Brasil was one geared toward commerce and entrepreneurial ideals rather than conquest, as was the case in the Spanish realm.
The Tupi people were the Indigenous people of Vera Cruz. Their fate was sadly about to change.
